The bitter taste of failure.

When doing something for the first time, there is a wave of stress that surrounds you, rather you feel as if you are being drowned under that wave of stress. The shaky hands, the heavy breathing and that sweat. Not to mention a few eyes on you, usually that does not go down very well. Getting things right the first time can be a bit of a challenge, you can get them right but it does not always happen. Is it all just luck? Not necessarily, but yes there is some degree of luck, some contribution of practice and a chunk of contribution from the background knowledge that you have acquired through observing and researching about whatever it is that you are going to be doing.
If you get it right the first time, things start to seem to look easy as you have that freshly gained confidence surrounding you. But things seem to look the other way when you're not able to get things around the first time.
Failing the first few times does hit your confidence quite badly, but what can you do now. There are two options, either you can try and keep going at it or you can just give it up. The tough part is finding the motivation to keep going on, but then there's an even more challenging bit and that is failing at something that you have learnt to do. One of the consultants that I work with says, if it going to happen, it is going to but if its not going to happen then its not going to happen. You should just keep trying and you will get there, and there's no point in beating yourself up about it. Accepting that you need to learn something demands that you break your ego, learn to accept your mistakes and be willing to fail. The only way to get comfortable with something is doing it over again and again till it becomes a reflex, but even during those times you are not able to get things done. There are a number of factors that come into play, and you can't really control all of them either. There's just one thing that you can fully control and that is you, the rest you have to accept that they are not within your control.
I know these things are easier said than done, but you only have two choices to make. Either keep going on or give it up. Learning the art of accepting failure is something that we have to learn, one way or another. The bitter taste of failure is something that one has to get acquainted with.
